Jack Curtis Dubowsky Ensemble is thrilled to release THEMES, a full-length studio album, with 15 memorable, original tunes from four of our live score shows: The Kid, Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde, The Golem, and The Lodger. We chose our best material from our most exclusive shows.
You can pre-order this now; you can also get it when it drops on Bandcamp Friday, August 7, 2026. It's available digitally, and also on CD, in a beautiful 6-panel wallet with all the credits. Many of our fans asked how they could listen to the music from our shows. Well, here it is! Thanks for your support. While our live scores incorporate plentiful structured improvisation, this album highlights some of our favorite original themes, composed for silent films. We first presented Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in 2018. This film probes the anima and animus proposed by Jungian psychology. Mr. Hyde's sinister presence permeates the picture and our score, represented by a recurring H note (B natural), sometimes blending in, sometimes eerily dissonant. We debuted our score for The Golem in 2015. Steeped in wizardry, superstition, and magic, the film portrays Jews of 16th century Prague in a power struggle with the Holy Roman Emperor and their own unearthly creation. The Lodger, debuted in 2023, was our most ambitious score in its detail, musical complexity, precision, and number of players. Hitchcock's first thriller demanded subtlety and fun British music hall type tunes. In 2024, we received special permission to create a new, original score to Chaplin's The Kid. The film and music cover a wide range: comedy, tragedy, fights, chases, and domestic bliss. |
